Exterior Detailing

We hand wash every vehicle using the two bucket method, one bucket for clean soapy water, one for rinsing the mitt, so dirt and grit picked up off the paint never gets dragged back across it. After the wash we check the paint by hand. If it feels rough or gritty even after washing, that's usually bonded contamination like overspray, tree sap, or embedded road grime, and we clay bar or use a chemical decontamination product to pull it off the clear coat before any wax or sealant goes on. Wheels and tires get their own dedicated brushes and cleaners so wheel grime never touches the paint.

A sedan or small SUV usually runs 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on paint condition and how much decontamination it needs. Larger trucks and SUVs run longer. Available mobile or in-shop, book either way.

A basic drive-through or self serve wash mostly just removes loose surface dirt and often uses the same wash mitt or brush on every car, which can actually add fine scratches to the clear coat over time. Hand washing with the two bucket method and a fresh microfiber mitt avoids that cross contamination, and it's the standard most professional detailers use for a reason.

Clay bar decontamination matters because paint picks up bonded contaminants that a wash can't touch, tiny bits of tar, rail dust, industrial fallout, and tree sap that sit on top of and slightly into the clear coat. Running a clay bar or clay mitt over washed paint with lubricant pulls that material out. You can usually feel the difference immediately, paint goes from slightly rough to glass smooth.

Machine applied wax or sealant spreads a thinner, more even coat than hand application and can work the product slightly into the clear coat's texture, which tends to last longer against UV and water. Either way, on Long Island, salt air and road salt in winter break down protection faster than in most other regions, so exterior protection needs refreshing more often here than the national average detailers usually quote.

  • Two bucket hand wash with pH balanced soap

  • Clay bar or chemical decontamination for bonded grime

  • Wheel and tire cleaning with dedicated brushes

  • Hand applied wax or sealant for UV and salt protection

Decontamination

Clay bar or a clay alternative spray pulls embedded contaminants like sap and overspray off the clear coat that washing alone can't remove.

Honest Assessment

If the paint has heavy swirl marks, oxidation, or deep scratches, a wax or sealant won't fix that. We'll tell you when a paint correction is the right call instead of a straight wax.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is exterior detailing different from a regular car wash?

A regular wash mostly removes loose dirt. Exterior detailing includes decontamination to remove bonded grime the wash can't touch, plus hand applied wax or sealant for protection, and dedicated attention to wheels and tires.

Do I need clay bar treatment every time?

No. We check the paint by hand after washing. If it still feels gritty, we decontaminate. If it's already smooth, we skip straight to protection and save you the time.

How often should I get an exterior detail?

Every 8 to 12 weeks is a reasonable range for most daily drivers on Long Island, more often if the car sits outside near salt air or gets heavy sap and pollen exposure.

Can this be done mobile at my house?

Yes, we bring water and power with us for mobile appointments. Some heavier decontamination jobs are easier to do in-shop where we have more consistent conditions, we'll let you know if that's the better call for your car.

Will this remove scratches or swirl marks?

A standard exterior detail with wax or sealant won't correct swirl marks or deeper scratches. That needs our Paint Correction & Wax service. We'll flag it if we see it during the wash.

How long does the protection last?

It depends on the product and how the car is stored, but expect a few months of protection from most sealants before it needs a refresh. Salt exposure in winter shortens that window.
