Interior Detailing

Interior Detailing

A full interior detail covers every seat, carpet, floor mat, panel, and vent, not just the areas a quick vacuum reaches. We steam clean fabric and carpet to lift ground-in dirt, treat stains before they set permanently, and condition leather seats so they stay soft instead of cracking. On Long Island, that usually means digging out beach sand from the seams, salt residue tracked in during winter, and the mildew smell a closed-up car develops in summer humidity.

A sedan typically takes about 2 hours, an SUV or minivan with a third row runs closer to 3, since there is simply more carpet, more seats, and more seams to work through. Book it mobile at your home or office anywhere on Long Island, or drop off at our Islip Terrace shop.

Steam and extraction are two different steps, and both matter. Steam uses high temperature vapor to loosen dirt and oils bonded into carpet and upholstery fibers, and it also kills a lot of the bacteria that causes musty smells. Extraction is what actually pulls that loosened dirt back out: a cleaning solution gets worked into the fibers, agitated, then vacuumed back out along with whatever it lifted. Steam alone without extraction just leaves the loosened grime to dry back into the fabric.

Plastic trim, the dashboard, and door panels get treated with a UV protectant after cleaning, not just wiped down. Long Island gets strong summer sun through the windshield, and untreated plastic and vinyl fade, turn chalky, and eventually crack from UV exposure over a few years. A protectant slows that breakdown and keeps the factory texture instead of leaving a greasy shine that attracts dust.

If your car has a musty or mildew smell, that is almost always moisture, not just dirt. Mold can start growing in a closed, warm car cabin within a day or two once something has stayed wet, most often a leaking window seal, a spilled drink that soaked into carpet padding, or wet gear left in the back after the beach or a rainy day. Vacuuming and steam cleaning address the smell at the surface, but if the carpet padding underneath is still damp, the odor comes back within a week or two. We check for damp spots during the interior detail and will flag it if we find one, since that is a separate repair, not something a cleaning alone fixes permanently.

  • Full vacuum reaching under seats, in door pockets, and between cushions

  • Steam cleaning that lifts sand, salt residue, and ground-in dirt a regular vacuum leaves behind

  • Stain removal and leather conditioning for seats and trim

  • Mobile at your home or office, or in-shop in Islip Terrace

Steam Cleaning

Hot steam breaks down ground-in dirt, beach sand, and road salt residue, and sanitizes fabric without soaking the padding underneath, so seats and carpet dry faster.

Leather Conditioning

A proper conditioner keeps leather seats soft and prevents the cracking that comes from years of sun exposure and normal wear. We recommend conditioning every few months for daily drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an interior detail take for a sedan vs an SUV?

A sedan usually takes about 2 hours. An SUV or minivan with a third row runs closer to 3 hours since there is more carpet, more seats, and more seams to clean.

Can you get rid of beach sand and pet hair?

Yes. Sand worked into seams and pet hair embedded in carpet and seats are both removed as part of a standard interior detail, no separate charge for normal amounts.

Will shampooing damage leather or stain fabric?

No, we use products matched to the material. Leather gets a pH-neutral cleaner and conditioner rather than fabric shampoo, since it is aggressive detergent that strips its natural oils and dries it out, not cleaning in general.

How often should I get my interior detailed?

Every 3 to 4 months is typical for a daily driver, especially with kids, pets, or regular trips to the beach. Less frequent driving or a garage-kept car can usually stretch that out.

My car has a musty smell even after a wash. Will an interior detail fix it?

Usually yes if the source is surface dirt or a one-time spill, since steam and extraction remove the residue causing the smell. If the smell keeps coming back within a couple weeks, there is likely still moisture trapped in the carpet padding or seat foam from a leak, and that needs to be dried out before any cleaning will hold. We will tell you honestly if that is what we are seeing.

Do you treat the dashboard and plastic trim, or just the seats and carpet?

Yes, a full interior detail includes a UV protectant on the dashboard, door panels, and other plastic and vinyl trim after cleaning. This is a separate step from leather conditioning, and it is what keeps trim from fading and cracking under sun exposure over time.
